Majority vs minority judgements in court

South Africa’s former President Jacob Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in jail by the country’s apex court.  He was given five days to hand himself over to the police; failing that, the police minister must order his arrest.

The sentence comes after the Constitutional Court unanimously found him guilty of contempt for defying its order to appear at the Zondo Commission of inquiry into corruption.  Many people have argued that the recent case against Jacob Zuma was not unanimous.

We discussed the differences between majority and minority judgements with SA First Forum’s Advocate Rod Solomon.
