Man intrinsically has a love of wealth in his heart. He strives hard to attain it and then naturally wants to save and amass it. Despite that, if he spends his wealth with sincerity, this is a great sign of his faith, and there are tremendous benefits that he will attain.

The Messenger Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam said:

“إنَّ الصَّدقةَ لتطفىء غَضَبَ الرَّبِّ وتَدْفَعُ مِيتَة السُّوءِ- أخرجه الترمذي

“Indeed charity extinguished the anger of Almighty Allah and saved a person from a bad death” Tirmidhi.

When you are sick – it is recommended that you explore the necessary avenues of treatment. Together with that, one should make Dua for a cure and give charity.

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:

داووا مرضاكم بالصدقة – رواه البيهقي في السنن الكبرى

“Treat the sick by giving charity.” Baihaqi

Imam Baahaqi R.A. narrates a remarkable incident about his teacher Abu Abdullah Al-Hakim, who was troubled with pimples and rashes on his face. No medical treatment was curing him. This continued for one year.

Abu Abdullah requested a great scholar, Imam Abu Uthmaan – to make Dua for him at his weekly gathering on Fridays. So Abu Uthmaan made Dua for him, and everyone present said: “Aameen!”.

On the following Friday, a woman sent him a note saying, “Last Friday when I went home, I made Dua for Abu Abdullah Al-Hakim crying and beseeching Almighty Allah to grant him complete cure. She says that when I slept, I saw Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam in a dream, and it is as though he said to me: “Tell Abu Abdullah that he should make water available to the Muslims.”

Abu Uthmaan gave the note to Abu Abdullah Al-Hakim and instructed that he arrange for a water tank to be erected at the entrance to his house. Water was then filled into the tank, and since it was scalding, ice was added. This was opened for the public to consume. Many people started to drink from here.

Hardly a week passed, and Abu Abdullah Al-Hakim already started to show signs of improvement. It was not long before he was completely cured, and his face returned to its former beauty. He lived for many years after that. {Awareness & Apprehension Page 291}

Through the charity of making water available to the masses, Abu Abdullah Hakim cured his sickness.

Giving charity has a unique link with gaining a cure for sickness. There are numerous avenues of charity: from giving money to a poor person to feeding a hot meal to a hungry person, from digging a well to building a Masjid, from clothing a person to sponsoring a student’s Islamic or secular education.

During these challenging times, with many people sick with COVID-19 – we should all increase our charity with the intention of cure from all ailments.

May Almighty Allah grant all the sick complete Shifaa.
