Zuma Respects Constitutional Court Judgment – Presidency

March 31, 2016

Faizel Patel, 2016-03-31

The Presidency says President Jacob Zuma has noted and respects the unanimous judgement handed down by the Constitutional Court relating to Public Protectors Thuli Madonsela’s report on Nkandla.

The highest court in the country ruled that Zuma’s response to the Public Protectors Nkandla report was inconsistent and that he failed to uphold, defend and respect the Constitution as the supreme law of the land.

Treasury has to determine the amount of money that Zuma needs to pay back personally and report back to the Constitutional Court within 60 days.

Zuma will then have 45 days to pay back the money.

In a statment, the Presidency says the Constitutional Court is and remains the guardian of the constitution of the republic and the final arbiter on matters.

The Presidency says it will study the judgement before taking its next step.
