President Jacob Zuma says he will be making a statement after the African National Congress (ANC) gave him a deadline for today (Wednesday) to leave office or face a motion of no confidence on Thursday.
Zuma broke his silence addressing the nation on live TV saying no one has been able to tell him what he’s done wrong.
In an interview with the SABC, Zuma said the call for him to resign was unfair.
“I am going to make a statement today. I think it’s important because I’ve been portrayed as someone who is defying the ANC. I have never done this in my life.”
Zuma says there are processes in the ANC that need to be followed if he’s done something wrong.
“In the discussion‚ I asked as to‚ ‘what was the problem? Why must I be persuaded to resign? Have I done anything wrong?’ “And of course the officials provide what it is that I’ve done.”
Zuma says he doesn’t agree with the ANC’s decision to recall him and warns if the party is not careful, they will have bigger problems.
The ANC meanwhile says it has noted Zuma’s interview with the SABC and will await the response from the president.
