Durban High Court Judge Themba Sishsi has postponed the corruption case against former President Jacob Zuma to 8 June 2018.
Zuma appeared in the dock facing 16 charges of fraud, corruption and racketeering related to the multi-billion rand arms deal.
Between October 1995 and July 2005, Shabier Shaiks company allegedly made 783 payments to Zuma totalling R 4 million.
While Shaik was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2005, the charges against Zuma were dropped in 2009.
However, National Prosecuting Authority head Shaun Abrahams announced last month that they would prosecute the former president.
His co-accused, a representative from French arms dealer Thales, Christine Guerrier, sat next to him. She is vice president of dispute resolution and litigation at the aerospace, defence and security group.
Judge Sishsi accepted both the state prosecutor Billy Downer and defence Advocate Hoosen Gani’s agreement that the matter would be postponed, in order for Zuma to bring an application to challenge the National Prosecute Authority’s (NPA) decision to reinstate charges against him.
“This matter is adjourned to the 8th of June 2018 which is a provisional date. The two accused are released on warning.”
This is Zuma’s first court appearance in 9 years.
