Zakir Naik NGO Banned for 5 Years by Modi Government

November 16, 2016

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 16-11-2016

The Indian government has banned Dr Zakir Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) for 5 years branding it an ‘unlawful organisation’ under the anti-terror law involved in activities allegedly related to terror.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday.

Delhi based journalist Ahmed Mukhtar says the Indian government branded the organisation unalawful after Naik allegedly made “objectionable and subversive” speeches and engaged in terror propaganda.

“There were certain speeches which as per the investigation were provocative and there was some incidents given like one of his workers had links to ISIS.”

Mukhtar says IRF’s legal team has indicated that it will challenge the banning in the highest Indian court.

“They have already said there is nothing like that (terror activities) because he (Naik) has a very huge following across the world because he speaks about Islam and which is in itself peace and he message of peace and message of tranquillity.”

Mukhtar says many in India are unhappy with the government’s decision to ban the IRF and have pledged their support for Naik who has decided not to travel to the country for fear being persecuted or arrested.
