Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosasana Dlamini-Zuma says homeowners who need repairs done to their homes will now be able to call a maintenance person to do the work.

Ministers representing the coronavirus national command council were updating the nation on the revised lockdown regulations on Thursday.

Currently, the country has 2,506 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 34 deaths.

Dlamini-Zuma says every week there will be announcements made about the changes to the regulations to ease the lockdown in an orderly manner.

“Also for homes, private homes. If you have a burst pipe, or something goes wrong with your electricity, you should be able to call a professional plumber or electrician to sort that out. So, we are saying that also is now opened up.”

Dlamini also mentioned amendments to the food industry.

“We are also stressing the issue the wholesalers, groceries, spaza shops, informal fruit & vegetable traders. But we are also including those who in small villages in some of our provinces do fishing and they sell the fish. So that is also allowed, but not cooked food.

Dlamini Zuma says the ban on alcohol will remain and that the only alcohol that is allowed to be transported is the one used for hand sanitizers and not the one for consumption while Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu says the cigarette ban will also not be lifted.
