Yemeni Journalist, Nasser Arrabyee told Radio Islam that even though cases of cholera have subsided in the war stricken country, the humanitarian situation remains the worst in the world.

Things could only worsen as the World Health Organisation issued a warning that a cholera epidemic could flare up again in the rainy season.

News agencies are reporting that ‘WHO’ Deputy Director General for Emergency Preparedness and Response Peter Salama saying that the number of cholera infections had been in decline in Yemen over the past 20 weeks after it hit the 1 million mark of suspected cases.

“However, the real problem is we’re entering another phase of rainy seasons.” – Salama

Even though the spotlight might be on the cholera issue, Yemeni’s are going though much more than that.

Arrabyee says forces have been using starvation as a weapon to kill Yemeni’s.

“Food is very expensive, no one can afford to even buy simple items of food.”

The United Nations claim more than 22 million of Yemen’s 25 million population need humanitarian assistance, including 11.3 million who are in acute need.
