Yemen Crisis Numbers Mind Boggling

April 25, 2018

Thahir Asmal, Radio Islam News – 25-04-2018

Up to 90 percent of Yemen is in need of humanitarian aid and a further 30 percent is in desperate need of help.

This is according to senior journalist Nasser Arrabye who has conceded that the situation on the ground in that country is desperate due to the constant barrage of attacks being launched by Saudi Arabia.

The western Asian nation has been racked by violence since 2014 after Houthi rebels overran much of the country with the region thrown into further chaos in 2015 when the Saudis and their allies launched a massive air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi gains.

But the situation has only worsened and Arrabye owner and director of the Yemeni Alaan media company, painted a bleak picture to Radio Islam International.

“Saudi Arabia is fighting Yeminis through this current starvation. This should be clear to everyone outside of Yemen. They are fighting through the economy, more than they are fighting through cluster bombings.”

“There are 30 million Yeminis and least 30 percent are in famine now, which is dire, and at least 60 percent are in need of humanitarian aid. The other 10 percent are the ones that have money. So it is a big crisis.”

The United Nations has described the situation as one of “the world’s worst humanitarian disasters in modern times”.
