As the world celebrates World Radio Day, multiple award winning Radio Islam International continues to play an integral role in many communities across the country and across the globe.
Proclaimed in 2011 by the Member States of UNESCO, and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, February 13 became World Radio Day (WRD).
Radio is a powerful medium for celebrating humanity in all its diversity and constitutes a platform for democratic discourse.
At the global level, radio remains the most widely consumed medium with its unique ability to reach out the widest audience means radio can shape a society’s experience of diversity, stand as an arena for all voices to speak out, be represented and heard.
One of first employees of Radio Islam International, Ml Ismail Bukharia says radio and Radio Islam has a huge footprint in the community, across South Africa and the globe irrespective or race, religion or culture.
Ml Bukharia says Radio Islam has gained phenomenal recognition in South Africa competing with even mainstream media and commercial radio stations.
“Radio Islam has for over twenty years now Alhamdulillah served the Muslim community worldwide. It is a companion, a teacher, a motivator, entertainer and most of all a friend to everyone. Radio Islam continues to make inroads to Muslim as well as non-Muslim communities.”
Radio Islam has won the “Station of the Year” award twice at the MTN Radio Awards with a number of employees scooping many awards for various categories including programming, news, and edutainment among others.
