Woman Detained in Saudi Arabia Released, to Return to South Africa

July 26, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 26-07-2018

A 25-year-old South African woman from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape detained in Saudi Arabia has been released.

Yumna Desai will be returning back to South Africa on Thursday.

Desai who was studying in Medina was arrested along with her sister and two brothers in November almost two years ago, after they returned to the kingdom following their Ramadan break in South Africa.

It’s believed the siblings were detained under the security act of Saudi Arabia after being accused of supporting different political groups.

Yumna’s siblings were released last year and are back in South Africa while she remained incarcerated.

Yumna’s father Ml Nazier Desai has thanked the many communities for their support.

“We the family of Yumna, would like to take this opportunity to extend our great deal of appreciation to all those – specifically some of the honourable Ulamâ – who have extended such beautiful, heart-wrenching messages, calls, visits and outstanding words of warmth, encouragement and support that has rendered life to our hearts throughout this challenging period”

Ml Desai says people should continue making dua that each and every prisoner be granted a swift release and that ease be granted to the hearts of their families.
