With less than week left before the blessed month of Ramadan bids us farewell, renowned Islamic scholar and United Ulama Council of South Africa (Uucsa) spokesperson Ml Ebrahim Bham says Eid is likely to be on Wednesday next week.

While there is speculation about when the day of Eid might be and with the sighting of the moon on occasion a contentious issue, many including Radio Islam accept only the official confirmation of the moon sighting by Uucsa.

Ml Bham says while there is no guarantee, its more than likely that Eid will be on Wednesday.

“It’s a twenty nine hour moon. We still have to sight the moon even if its twenty nine hours, because Nabi Muhammad (saw) said ‘break your fast and end your Ramadan by seeing the moon.’”

Ml Bham has advised anyone who sights the moon on Tuesday evening to contact Uucsa on (011) 373-8000.
