Why are we so tired?

February 26, 2021

By Mumtaz Moosa Saley

Over the past few weeks, people have been feeling fatigued, this could be due to contracting COVID-19 for most, however, for me, it is not the case.

It’s been three weeks that I have been waking up tired and what some may call “brain fog”. I push it off as maybe I need a break as I have had only a four-day break in December last year.

Like all humans on the planet during a pandemic I have decided to Google my symptoms to realise that I am not alone in feeling this way. Many articles have named this feeling Pandemic Fatigue.

We all had to change our lives overnight, nothing is certain any more. Our financial worries added to our concerns for our health and safety brought on gloomy moods and a year later, we are just exhausted.

Japanese doctors say that we are feeling this way due to signs of change fatigue and if this feeling continues, we will have to seek out medical advice.

Change fatigue can manifest itself in many ways, one of the most noticeable is “burn out”, fatigue and an overall negative attitude. If left unchecked, it will lead to deep dark depression as our mental health has been challenged now like never before.
