The World Health Organisation (WHO) says a possible end is in sight for the Covid-19 pandemic that has killed six million people worldwide.

Briefing the media on updates in the worlds health sphere, WHO Director- General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says even though the world is not yet ready to end the pandemic, there are signs that Covid-19 is nearing an end.

“Last week the number of weekly reported deaths from Covid-19 was the lowest since March 2020. We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic – we are not there yet but the end is in sight,” he says.

In an attempt to assist countries to rein in the virus, WHO has published six policies that aims to help navigate countries in ending the deadly pandemic.

He has urged countries to endorse vaccination amongst high risk groups and continue testing for coronavirus.

Adding that the rollout of vaccines and therapies have assisted in eradicating the virus.

The organisation also warned of possible future waves and cautioned nations to maintain medical supplies and sufficient healthcare practitioners.

Meanwhile, Ghebreyesus says monkeypox has also been seeing a “downtrend” across the globe but urged countries to maintain the fight against both infections.
