Which City Ranks As South Africa’s ‘Laziest’?

September 17, 2018

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/09/17

The ‘city of Roses’ or Bloemfontein has been dubbed as the ‘laziest city’ in South Africa.

Business Insider SA Journalist James de Villiers told Radio Islam that according to data from Discovery’s Vitality program, Bloemfontein was found to be the laziest, while Cape Town came in as the most active.

“The report is based on Discovery Health Vitality members, and what they’ve found is that in all of the cities in South Africa, Bloemfontein was found to be the most inactive in terms of gym visits, walking 10 000 steps a day.”

Johannesburg was ranked second and Pretoria third in the wellness programs ‘Road to a Healthier South Africa’ report.

De Villiers says the best way to encourage people to get active is to incentivise them.

“You not going to get people active by telling them (omw) you should exercise, this is bad for you, the only way you going to get people exercising is actually to reward them for it.”

Through the Vitality app, drivers were also tracked for dangerous actions on the road.

The best drivers resided in Cape Town, followed by Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein with the worst driving recorded in Durban.
