WhatsApp Could Be Killed Off, As It’s Founder Jan Koum Walks Away

May 07, 2018

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/05/07

The Chief Innovation Officer of Khaya Labs, Wesley Diphoko told Radio Islam “WhatsApp is going through an interesting period that might lead to its death.”

It is being widely reported that WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum’s exit reportedly follows clashes over Facebook’s attempts to weaken the encryption of the messaging service.

Last week, the Washington Post broke the story that Koum was leaving after Facebook’s attempts to use its personal data and weaken its encryption.

Diphoko says that WhatsApp is one of the strongest encrypted messaging platforms we have today.

“However this does not sit well with Facebook, as an entity [reliant on ads].”

Diphoko adds that with Koum’s exit, there will be less resistance on the app about encryption.

This means you could very soon see adverts popping up on WhatsApp.

Diphoko believes that what happened with ‘chat service Mxit’ could happen to WhatsApp in the near future.
