The Gauteng Community Safety Department says the actions of a motorist who was captured on a video driving off while a Metro Cop clung on to her cars bonnet is not only reckless, but smacks of arrogance.
The footage, which has gone viral on social media, shows the 27-year-old driver who had just been issued with a fine for using a cellphone while driving in Krugersdorp speeding off with the officer hanging from the front of the vehicle.
A taxi eventually blocked off the car forcing it to stop.
The driver was arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving.
The community safety departments Ofentse Morwane. says motorists must respect traffic official and rules of the road.
“It is very regrettable that once again we are talking about the whole issue of the attitude of our drivers on the road. As Gauteng police we will continue to work without fear of favour to maintain high visibility on our roads to make sure that those who disregards the rules of the road are dealt with.”
The metro officer was not injured in the incident.
