Outgoing Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga announced that he will be leaving his mayoral post at the end of February to focus on his candidacy for the premiership of Gauteng.
However, it emerged in reports over the weekend that he did not resign on his own accord but was forced by the DA to choose between the city and running for the premiership of Gauteng.
Msimanga refuted this claim, telling Radio Islam that his decision to step down as mayor, was a conscious one.
“We are investing a significant amount of money and time here in Gauteng because the polls are telling us we can actually win Gauteng.”
