Vodacom Pledges R 87 Million for Cold Chain Vaccine Storage & Safe Transportation

Vodacom has pledged R 87 million towards a cold chain storage and the safe transportation of COVID-19 vaccines.

The announcement was made by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday while addressing the nation on developments in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ramaphosa says greater collaboration between government, business, labour and civil society is key to the success of the vaccine rollout.

He says the private sector continues to play a key supporting role in the national effort.

“We want to commend the Vodacom group and Vodafone Foundation which have pledged R 87 million in African countries in which they operate for cold chain storage and the logistics for the COVID-19 vaccines to enable them to be delivered securely.”

Ramaphosa also announced that Vodacom has initiated a vaccine platform.

“In addition, Vodacom will be developing a state of the art vaccine management platform across the AU members states following a successful rollout of the same platform here in South Africa.”

Ramaphosa has called on private sector partners to support the new phase in the fight against COVID-19,
