Umrah to Resume, but with Conditions

September 15, 2020

Umrah is to soon resume, but only with a limited number of pilgrims, that too, only domestic pilgrims.

The Saudi Gazette reports that the Kingdoms Ministry of Interior had on Sunday announced that travel restrictions would be partially lifted as of September 15. A full lifting of restrictions will only be effective completely from January 1, 2021. According to the Saudi Gazette, a plan to lift the suspension of Umrah performance will be announced  depending on developments related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Further, only those domestic pilgrims who fulfill certain terms and conditions will be allowed to perform the Umrah. Pilgrims will have to be in possession of a medical certificate to prove a negative test result for the virus. They will also have to have been granted a permit to perform the Umrah.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is also expected to announce soon the terms and conditions regarding umrah during the pandemic. The Saudi Gazette reports that there will be a mobile application available to track the time of performance of the pilgrimage by each pilgrim and other related matters.
