The United Arab Emirates is one of the first nations to have vaccinated the majority of its population.
Al Arabiya reports that Dr Fouad al-Rahal, a specialist in emergency medicine at Bareen International Hospital, said “With the dedicated effort of the UAE government to combat the pandemic, the UAE may soon be the first country to vaccinate its entire population and reach herd immunity.” He has also credited the willingness of the general public to support the vaccination programs,
According to Our World in Data, a collaboration between researchers at the University of Oxford and the Global Change Data Lab, the UAE is currently one of the countries that are in the lead in getting its population vaccinated. The collaboration indicates that at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to more than 60 per cent of the population.
Meanwhile, the UAE’s National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority says more than six million vaccine doses have been administered across the seven emirates, tweeting that the UAE was able to provide the vaccine to more than 3 600 000 people. Al Arabiya reports that 61 out of every 100 people have thus received the vaccine. The UAE is second only to Israel, which has administered at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to almost 92 percent of the population.
Doctors across the Gulf country are expecting it to be the first to emerge from the pandemic.
