Newcastle speaker Reginald Ndima was killed while entering his home in Newcastle on January 29, 2022.

Two people have been arrested for the murder. Mhlonishwa Sokhulu (43) and Sbusiso Chocolo (29) appeared at the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. They are currently in custody and will return to court on Monday for a bail application.

Ndima’s death followed the murder of eThekwini councillor Minenhle Mkhize who was killed at his home on January 22.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for the department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Sipho Hlomuka, said the arrests had given hope that the masterminds behind the attacks on councillors would also face the might of the law.

He added that both murders had left a deep scar in the communities they both served.
