The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says twenty two people have been arrested for double voting.
The IEC was briefing the media at the Tshwane Results Operations Centre (Roc) on Friday.
On Wednesday, voters and politicians posted photos and videos on social media, complaining of possible voter fraud.
The IEC’s Janet Love has thanked political parties and police for working with the IEC during the elections.
“We would like to thank the South African Police Services for the rapid way in which they have acted against voters alleged to have voted twice or attempted to vote more than once. To date 22 persons have been arrested.”
Love also says the IEC will receive a list of 1,020 voting stations from the Statistician General that will form the start of commissions audit.
Love says the list of 1,020 voting stations will be submitted for political parties.
She says the Statistician-General has not made any findings as yet, but on only defined the audit sample.
“The list will form part of an independent technical assurance process that looks at the sections 24A voting.”
Love says the IEC is also disappointed by the conduct of some political parties who breached the electoral code and disrupted the operations at the Roc.
