Trump Gives Pakistan An Ultimatum In Bringing ‘Peace’ To Afghanistan

November 29, 2018

Radio Islam International – 2018/11/29

United States President Donald Trump has reiterated that the USD 1.3 billion in aid to Pakistan will remain suspended until the country acts against militant safe heavens inside its territory.

The US, which claims it’s ‘fighting’ Taliban militants since 2001 in Afghanistan, continues to seek an exit strategy from the troubled country and in recent months Washington has held direct talks with the Taliban representatives to end the 17 year long war.

Nawaaf Khan, a researcher at Pakistan’s Institute for Peace Studies, told Radio Islam that the US expects Pakistan to do more in order to speed up the peace process in Afghanistan.

“They want all stakeholders to come to the table to settle the issue, the Americans are exercising their upper hand.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has promised to play a role to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
