Trollip Insists He Is Still The Rightful Mayor of The Nelson Mandela Bay Metro

August 29, 2018

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/08/29

Athol Trollip insists he remains the rightful Mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro.

Trollip was joined by Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane at a media briefing on Tuesday after he was booted from the position in an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)-sponsored motion of no confidence.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Trollip said that he believes he is still the rightful Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay

“A lot of my colleagues and things have been taken out of my office, Bobane has pictures of him seated in the chair of my office, I believe I’m still mayor, I believe that the meeting that took the decision to elect a new speaker and to remove me and elect a new mayor and deputy mayor was unlawful.

Trollip adds that they have appointed a legal team to challenge his unlawful removal.

“I would’ve preferred for them to be in court at least by yesterday, but our legal team believe that they need to take things carefully and not to make mistakes, and they don’t want to rush.”
