Trade Route Mall confirms attempted robbery at its mall as suspects flee

Police are searching for three suspects involved in an armed robbery at the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia. The incident occurred around noon today, with the robbers targeting a PEP Cell store located next to the Pick n Pay outlet within the mall.

According to Shahim Ismail of Lethal Forces, three bravo gentlemen entered the PEP Cell store as regular customers and suddenly left in a hurry. Upon noticing the odd behaviour of the suspects, a guard on duty at the time approached the suspects and began to investigate.

One of the suspects then pointed a firearm at the guard, to which he responded by taking cover and calling for backup, ensuring a chase.  A bag of cell phones was recovered. No injuries or gunshots were reported and no arrests have been made.

A case of robbery has been opened in an ongoing investigation by SAPS Lenasia, and an arrest is expected soon.
