Time For Yemeni’s To Pick Up The Pieces

March 05, 2018

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/03/05

With over three million Yemenis having fled their homes due to the ongoing conflict, calls are growing for development in the country through a social media campaign called ‘#BringDevBack’.

Executive director at the Sanaa-based economic developmental organisation, Wesam Qaid told Radio Islam that even though the circumstances are horrific, there is hope on the ground.

“It’s really inspiring to see during this conflict, communities are using money sent from relatives now living abroad to re-build schools, clinics and water systems.”

Qaid says the campaign will get the country moving again in the right direction.

“You’ve got to go beyond the humanitarian assistance and start bridging humanitarian with developmental long term planning.”

Qaid adds that development will assist Yemen in securing a sustainable future.
