The Democratic Alliance (DA) says there must be a sustainable solution to prevent further attacks on the N12 highway near Lenasia after a motorist was brutally murdered on the notorious freeway.

It’s understood a couple were driving on the N12 during the early hours of last week when criminals threw a tyre at the car which they were driving causing a collision.

Four suspects then attacked the couple

In the confusion, the husband distracted the criminals and led them away from the car allowing his wife to escape and alert the police.

When emergency services arrived on scene, they found the husband shot and killed.

The DA’s Michael Sun says this grim attack is one of many attacks reported on the N12, which has become increasingly dangerous to drivers including rocks being placed on the road or dropped from the bridge in order to cause a collision.

“Whilst the local SAPS have responded swiftly, there have not been any arrests made. A sustainable solution to prevent further attacks would be to ensure adequate lighting on the road, regular patrols, dedicated police vehicles stationed at hotspots during high-risk periods, and CCTV cameras installed for off-site monitoring which can assist with focused, rapid response.”

Sun has extended heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the motorist
