Residents of Thembelihle near Lenasia are demanding answers after what they say is government’s reluctance to develop the informal settlement into a proper residential area citing dolomite ground as a reason.
Hundreds of residents are expected to march to the Corrobrick Municipal Offices along the K43 on Monday to hand over a memorandum of their grievances.
They say they have written to Mayor Herman Mashaba to receive their complaints and demands at the destination of the march.
The Thembelihle Crisis Committee’ Nhlakanipho Lukhele says they put pressure on government to conduct a dolomite survey of the land which was done, but do not have access to the reports.
Lukhele says access to the report including the addressing of other issues are crucial as it will determine the future of Thembelihle.
“The march is about the electricity that is not complete. Secondly we also have the dolomitic study is not yet released, so we are demanding that study should be released with immediate effect. Thirdly we’ve got a councillor whose busy interfering with community projects, whose firing and hiring community liaison officers.”
