The Unaccountable, a newly published book by Open Secrets, examines corruption in South Africa and is causing a stir in South Africa.

It examines corruption in South Africa and how those responsible are never held accountable.

Michael Marchant and Raeesa Pather, two co-authors, spoke with Radio Islam International.

According to Michael Marchant, the book’s principal purpose is to ensure that South Africa does not forget the unrepentant and that their names are recorded in history.

He continued by saying that the book’s objective is to make the evidence available to the public and to provide a clear entry point for any reader to comprehend what is wrong with South Africa’s system of impunity for corruption and other crimes.

Thirty-eight profiles of public figures, elected officials, ordinary people, and unaccountable firms and corporations are included in the book. They all engaged in criminal activity that had detrimental social effects – none of them has been held sufficiently accountable.

Raeesa Pather claims the book has received good reviews and powerfully struck a chord with South Africans.

Pather expressed optimism that the book will serve as a springboard for improving how legal systems hold wrongdoers accountable and involve more people in the justice system.
