The Prophet’s Seerah and the Necessity to Learn It

February 07, 2013

By Sh Abdur Rahman As Sudais – 13 Rabiul Awwal 1434

Praise be to Allah! We praise Him () as should be duly praised! We exalt His Greatness and Glory and beseech Him to grant us well-being and an honorable ending. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, the One with no associates, Who blessed us the ?Chosen one? (i.e. Prophet Muhammad ), al-hashir and al-?aqib . I also bear witness that our Prophet, Master, and beloved Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, who is distinguished by the noblest of traits and the most durable virtues. May Allah send His Salat (Graces, Honours and Mercy) and Peace on him, his family, Companions who are singled out ‒in being models‒ with the highest ranks, the tabi’in and those who follow them in righteousness for as long as the cycle of day and night is perpetuated.

O servants of Allah!

Fear Allah in all faith, and be aware that fearing Him () is the greatest evidence and strongest covenant.

“And whoever obeys Allah and His messenger and fears Allah, and is conscious of Him ? it is those who are the attainers.” [An-Nur, 52]

O Muslims!

All things must come to an end and disappear into utter oblivion. Every falsehood must recede and be defeated. Islam, however, the international, divine religion which is  the life to souls and selves, will ever be on the ascent and will incessantly gather more strength. The Seerah of the best of all mankind Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam will ever be prevalent, radiant and continuously spreading.  ﴾And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds. ﴿ [Al-Anbiya’: 107]

The blessed Muslim nation was able to ascend to the peak of glory and to lead mankind to the zenith of civilization, security, stability and fraternity only when it heeded the two noble revelations and when it absorbed, heart and soul, the noble Seerah of its Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and his fragrant traits.

But when the nation of unity, power and succor strayed from that glittering divine guidance, it ended up as dependent, weak satellite states. It became prey to subjugation and divergence and fell into dejection, dispersion and loss of identity. May Allah grant us help!

O Muslims!

Although over 14 centuries have passed since the Leader of all prophets Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam was sent (as prophet), the perfume of his bright Seerah is still spreading everywhere.

(The sheikh quotes a poetic line which translates as follows):
Behold! The universe has brightened; space is full of perfume,
And the horizon is shaded with happiness.

The Prophet’s Seerah is an embodiment of beauty and dignity, reverence and glory, of wisdom in words and deeds since it is the dictionary of history, the spring of civilization, the scientific programme and the practical ascent towards the Muslim ummah?s glory, dignity, success and triumph.

Is it not the Seerah of our beloved, Chosen Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, the seal of prophets, the Messenger of the King, the Omniscient, and the bearer of the banner of Truth, good, justice and peace? He is the one who led mankind out of loss and perversion, taught humanity after ignorance and took it to the peak of eminence and grandeur.

He is the Prophet of miracles, our savior from Hell fire, the most benevolent to all Muslims, and the most worthy, according to tradition and personal understanding, of true love and obedience.

(The sheikh quotes two lines of poetry which translate as follows):
If glory boasts its sublimity,
Our beloved one appears the fittest.
If the echo of glory puts us to shame,
He stands out, among people, the loftiest.

The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam says, “None of you will be a true believer unless he loves me more than his children, parents and all people.” [Reported by the two sheikhs, i.e. Bukhari and Muslim]

(Again, the sheikh quotes two more lines of poetry):
You are our beloved for whom our hearts,
with Allah’s command, fearlessly and tirelessly beat.
You are singled out by your Creator?s love,
When He chose you to be greatly revered.

That is the kind of love that engenders total obedience and surrender, as described by the Holy Qur’ān: “But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you [O Muhammad] judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit [full, willing] in submission.” [An-Nisa’: 65]

The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam says, “I am but a mercy bestowed upon you.”
Allah is great! What a great Prophet! What a generous Messenger!

(The sheikh once more quotes further lines of poetry which translate as follows):
He established the society of virtue and piety.
He built an edifice of glory.
Justice is its core, and good morals
Are with righteousness its foundation.

O believers!

Despite all this clarity in the Seerah of the best of mankind, the riffraff and the mobs, are still mounting vicious media campaigns to disseminate rancor and proselytize evil thoughts, in an attempt to undermine iconic prophets and messengers (of Allah ) and the noble sanctities particularly that of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and his immaculate guidance.

However, our balsam and consolation are in the words of our Lord: “Indeed, we are sufficient for you against the mockers.” [Al-Hijr: 95]; “Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off.” [Al-Kawthar: 3]

(The sheikh quotes two more lines of poetry which translate as follows):
We are fully aware that the rank of our Prophet
Is sublime and that his haters are petty.
Lest they repent, his abusers are disgraced,
And their recompense is thereof Hell fire.

Those people must have certainly realized that the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam had come to humanity with the highest moral values, the most accurate facts about the cosmos, the most eminent social systems, and with the purest religion: “And they belied them (those Ay?t) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ay?t ) are from All?h, and M?s? (Moses) is the Messenger of All?h in truth, but they disliked to obey M?s? (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsid?n (disbelievers, disobedient to All?h, evil-doers and liars.” [An-Naml: 14]

O Muslim Ummah!

If we see that calamities are befalling the Muslim Ummah everywhere, particularly in Syria, at the hands of criminals and evil doers whose evil has surpassed that of the people of ‘Ad, the onus is on the Muslim Ummah to revert to the profundity of the Prophet’s Sunnah and to benefit from all technologies available since the rapport between the Muslims and the Prophet’s Sunnah is rapidly wearing thin. Plagued by inertia, humiliation, dispersion and decline, Muslims, to save themselves from these woes, should hold fast to their Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and his Sunnah, and they should follow his example in their understanding, insightfulness, good conduct, thought and consideration.

Let us declare to the world loud and clear that the Prophet’s Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam Seerah and sublime Sunnah are the center of glory and triumph and the most lucid language which will grant the Muslim Ummah eminence and strength. O you! The Ummah that was glorified by the greatest Seerah and led the world through the noblest path.

Revival of the guidance of the radiant Seerah with all its meanings and aims is indispensable. The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam says, “I have been sent to perfect good morals” (Bukhari, in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad), and perfect them he did with mercy, compassion, truthfulness, fairness, honesty, dialogue, tolerance, moderation and reform.

(Again, the sheikh quotes two more lines of poetry which translate as follows):
Morals have been completed, for he is their perfection;
Successors may outperform their predecessors.
Our predecessors came up with a thousand virtues,
But what he brought eclipsed them all.

Nations must sense the morals of Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam in their politics, thoughts, cultures, ambitions, relations, dialogues, economies and information, for his morals are the experienced cameleer and the honest guide. Allah () says, “And if you obey him, you will be rightly guided.” [An-Nur, 54]

O Ummah of Seerah and Sunnah!

Adherence to and defense of the pure Seerah manifest themselves in holding fast to the eminent Sunnah, defending it, practicing it inwardly and outwardly, learning it and understanding it thoroughly, far away from religious fanaticism and sectarianism.

Dear fellow Muslims!

Our love for our Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, the best of mankind, will not materialize unless we subscribe to his guidance and Sunnah and benefit from the shining light of his Seerah.

Why, what for, how and for how long shall the Prophet?s guidance continue to be bound by time or space or restricted to particular instances of infraction, in total isolation from the spring of this radiant Sunnah. If only I knew! Such love is the pettiest and lowest kind of love!

(The sheikh continues to quote more lines of poetry which translate as follows):
Ask them about real love and its attributes,
And you will hear the most honest news.
Reviving his Sunnah is true love
For him in your hearts, words and thoughts.

I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan: “Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to mankind): “If you (really) love All?h then follow me (i.e. accept Isl?mic Monotheism, follow the Qur??n and the Sunnah), All?h will love you and forgive you your sins. And All?h is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): “Obey All?h and the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم).” But if they turn away, then All?h does not like the disbelievers. [Al Imran: 31-32]

May Allah bless you and me by the great Qur’ān and Sunnah, and grant you and me the benefit of its verses and wisdom. Having said this, I ask Almighty Allah to forgive me, you, and all Muslims; so ask Him for forgiveness and repent to Him, for our Lord is Most Forgiving!
