The Missing Element In Our Lives

October 16, 2018

[Summary & Podcast of Jumuah Lecture by Mufti Yusuf Moosagie]

Every person regardless of his or her profession, age or wealth has just 24 hours. Technology has advanced, machinery have been introduced into industry and appliances into homes to save us time. But everyone seems to be complaining about the lack of time. No one seem to be able to achieve what they really set out to do.

Why is this the case? What is missing in our lives?

The missing element is our lives is ‘Barakah’. Barakah is the attachment of Divine goodness to a thing. If Barakah occurs in something little, it increases it. And if it occurs in something abundant it makes it beneficial.

A very eloquent dictum says; “Barakah does not mean or result in abundance; it is rather the reverse: abundance is the direct output of Barakah.”

Sayyiduna Abu Huraira Radiyallahu Anhu narrated that Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam  said; “A  drought is not when there is no rainfall; A drought is when there is good rainfall, but Allah does not bestow His Bârakah on it).” (Muslim)

Barakah comes from Allah Ta’ala. He says in a Hadith Qudsi: “Whenever I am worshipped, verily I am pleased, and whenever I am pleased I confer my blessings, knowing that my ‘barakah’ parallels infinity.” (Ahmed)

Three Easy Ways to Attain Barakah

1) Honesty in Trade

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam  said; “The buyer and the seller have the option of canceling or confirming the bargain unless they separate, and if they spoke the truth and made clear the defects of the goods, then they would be blessed in their bargain, and if they told lies and hid some facts, their bargain would be deprived of Allah’s blessings”.[ Bukhari]

2) Greet When Entering The Home

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam advised Anasbin Malik R.A. : “O my son, when you enter your home, greet your family, it will be a means of Barakah for you and your family. ” [Tirmizi]

3 Join Ties

Sayyiduna Anas Bin Malik Radiyallahu Anhu reports that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said; “Whosoever likes that his sustenance increase and his sin be forgiven should join family times.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

Barakah is not a lost treasure, rather, it’s right in front of our eyes for those who are willing to search it.

These days they say that it is not how hard you work, but how smart you work. Barakah will add the element of smartness to your work.

When Barakah from Allah comes, know that there is no end to Allah’s Barakah…
