The Democratic Alliance blames the ruling party, ANC, for the massive fish and wildlife loss across KwaZulu-Natal caused by the high level of E.coli in water.
Heinz de Boer, DA KZN Spokesperson on EDTEA, says the Government’s inability to channel much-needed infrastructure remedial funds to municipalities has resulted in reports of hundreds of fish dying in the Blue Lagoon area, Durban, today.
According to de Boer, the provincial Government has been ignoring the required repairs to sewerage and sanitation infrastructure destroyed by the recent floods worth over R4 billion.
The DA says they are more concerned about how this governmental blunder will affect the province’s economy, health, and tourism.
Soon after, KZN suffered severely from the July unrest and floods.
Pending this week’s Environmental Affairs Committee meeting, the DA says the ANC must have a plan of action toward the water crisis that is now allegedly behind the death of at least one person and schools of fish.
A high level of E.coli found on the Durban beaches on Monday led to the closure of beaches in the city.
The public will be informed when the beaches are safe to utilise.
