The Cabbage Bandit : How one man started a cabbage revolution

September 14, 2021

The Cabbage bandit has gone viral on social media over the weekend; Djo BaNkuna was told to remove his cabbage patch in front of his home or face possible jail time. The policeman who had told him to remove the patch asked him to apply for a permit. He informed him that vegetation on the front of one’s home was not allowed as per the City by-laws.

The police officer also told him to apply for the permit at the Tshwane council offices. However, the unsuspecting BaNkuna, found himself the butt of a joke as the council office had not heard of such a by-law.

The incident has sparked a cabbage revolution as many South Africans have planted cabbages, supporting the Cabbage Bandit.

Djo BaNkuna has planted various vegetables over the years for anyone in need; whatever is left, he has donated to organisations in need.

Let us be part of the cabbage revolution and this Spring, let’s replace the flowers with vegetables to help those in need.
