Radio Islam International speaks to Senior Research Fellow at Africa Asia Dialogues Ebrahim Thembisa Fakude on this week’s Africa Report.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa promises an anti-corruption crackdown. Fakude said there are signs that he means well and is a man of due diligence.

According to Fakude, following the announcement on Sunday, more arrests are likely to be seen as there have already been high-profile arrests.

He said many people believe Ramaphosa will be a different president after the December ANC conference.

The US has blocked aid to Egypt over Humans Rights Concerns.

According to Fakude, thousands of prisoners are lingering in jail in Egypt, which is known for violating fundamental human rights.

“Egypt is an oppressive country which a dictator governs under the leadership of Muhammad Mosi,” he says.

When Biden took over, the Americans vowed to be tough on those violating basic Human Rights.

Meanwhile, in Zambia, the President has fired a top public Prosecutor.

Fakude told Radio Islam that Zambia is taking a different course in moving forward with its democratic reforms. Including trying to rectify its economy, which has been stalling over the past years.

“We see a Zambia that is getting more prosperous and trying hard to achieve democratic principles,” he added.

The same thing seems to be occurring in Tanzania as the President sacks his Foreign Minister.

“Leaders are now taking positions often seen and observed in the West,” said Fakude.

After the comments made by President Ramaphosa on Sunday, we may see a senior official in South Africa being fired. Which Fakude believes to be quite positive.
