March 3, 92 Years Since the Caliphate Fell

March 04, 2016

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 04/03/2016

On the 3rd of March 1924, the abolishment of the Khilaafat shook the world, after the first President of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal, as part of his secular reforms, constitutionally abolished the institution.

Next morning, Muslims awoke to the news that they had scarcely believed would ever happen. – The Khilaafat was abolished.

Now, on the 92nd anniversary of this Earth shattering event, the United States of America still have their President, England still has its Queen, the Catholics still have their Pope – but Muslims are condemned to roam the wilderness leaderless.

As no Khalifa had ever been buried in non-Muslim lands, the Khalifa remained unburied with no Muslim country willing to take his body.

Khalifa Abdul Majeed II was eventually buried in Jannat Al Baqi in Madinah.

There to this day, the first Khalifa and the last Khalifa of Islam lie within a few yards of each other- a reminder of a once great Muslim nation that has no one to lead it.

Its powers within Turkey were transferred to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the parliament of the newly formed Turkish Republic.
