As South Africa entered day 100 of the COVID-19 lockdown and with schools for grade R, 6 & 11 expected to open on Monday, two more schools in Lenasia have closed following coronavirus infections at the institutions.

In a statement, Greyville Primary School in Lenasia has informed parents that an educator at the school has tested positive for COVID-19.

The school says the infection was reported on Friday and that the matter has been brought to the attention of Education Department and relevant stakeholders.

“We therefore regret we cannot welcome our Grade R and Grade 6 learners on  6th of July 2020. ”

Greyville Primary says the school will be closed for a period of 14 days due to the contact by the educator with other educators and support staff who have gone into quarantine.

In another report, Park Primary school has also confirmed that an educator in the Foundation phase at the school has tested positive for COVID-19.

Park Primary says the educator had not been at school since Wednesday nor has the educator been in director contact with any of the Grade 7 learners.

“As per regulations, the school has made contact with the Department of Education and the Department of Health. The school will be closed until further notice while the necessary protocols take place.”

Park Primary says all educators have been observing social distancing with the use of a mask and regular sanitising which limits the spread amongst educators.
