September 06, 2016

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 06-09-2016

One person has been shot dead and another arrested following an attempted robbery at a farm along Nirvana Drive in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

Three other suspects are on the run.

It’s understood a local security company received a tip off yesterday that 5 suspects were planning to steal sheep from Takolia’s farm.

The police’s Hector Netshivodza says when the suspects arrived at the farm a shootout ensued between the suspects and security personnel.

“The 5 suspects arrived driving a white Nissan bakkie and found the security personnel waiting for them. The shooting started inside the yard between security and the suspects. One suspect was shot dead and one suspect was arrested. Three suspects managed to escape on foot and are they still at large.”

Netshivodza says police are investigating a case of inquest, attempted murder, attempted business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding whereabouts of the 3 suspects to come forward.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Lenasia Magistrates Court soon.
