Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 2013-09-20

Lenasia SAPS Station Commander, Captain Hector Netshivodza has confirmed to Radio Islam that a 24 year old Indian man has been arrested following the murder of two elderly Muslim sisters in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

Netshivodza told Radio Islam that when the police were conducting their investigation they received information from the neighbours that a 24-year-old 'Indian' man was last seen at the home before the murder and duly arrested him.

A source told Radio Islam that the suspect lives across the road from the house where the gruesome murder took place.

“The boy is also from the neighbourhood, and he was the last person seen at that house,” said Netshivodza.

The Indian man was one of two individuals taken in for questioning yesterday (19 September). “One was found to have no links to the incident, while the 24-year-old remains in police custody,” said Netshivodza.

"He will appear at the Lenasia Magistrate's Court soon," Netshivodza said, adding that a case of murder is being investigated.

A source told Radio Islam that the suspect will appear in the Lenasia Magistrates Court on Monday (23 September).

70 year old Hawa Bibi and 74 year old Zuleikha Ghora who was also bedridden and in a wheelchair were found dead at their home around 10am on the morning (18 September).

The elderly sisters were savagely murdered. Hawa Bibi was found lying on her side in the sitting room with her throat slit and Zuleikha on the bed in her bedroom with a stab wound to the head.
