On Monday, January 16 2022, INX Prime staff were held at gunpoint and robbed by several armed robbers, at their offices in Houghton, Johannesburg. No staff members were injured, but equipment such as computers and TV screens were stolen.
The South African National Editor’s Forum (SANEF) has released a statement condemning the attack and stated that there has been in increase in crimes that target journalist who cover specific stories. They also shared that many broadcasting hubs have been attacked with expensive equipment being stolen in recent months.
Recently, SANEF has witnessed how journalists get robbed when covering stories, and how several broadcast media have been targeted, with expensive equipment being stolen by brazen criminals – SANEF in a press release
There has not been more information about the robbery, but traumatized staff members will be given counselling. INX Prime says they are currently looking at how security can be improved to prevent an event such as this from happening in the future. The company has opened a criminal case with the SA Police Service.
