Sudan anti Normalization Protests: “We are Standing with Palestine”

October 24, 2020

Sudanese protesters, angry at the normalization deal with Israel, gathered in the capital Khartoum on Friday evening, to condemn the current junta’s decision. Protestors have called on Sudan’s Sovereign Council chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to reject the establishment of diplomatic relations with rogue state, Israel.

Protestors set the Israeli flag on fire as they chanted, “No to negotiations, peace and reconciliation with the regime!”, and “We are standing with Palestine!”

Meanwhile, a host of political parties have declared their outright rejection of the normalization agreement. Pars Today reports that they are to form a front to oppose the move. They say that normalization with Israel was not acceptable, and that the government was not authorized to take such a measure with a usurping and racist regime. The Ba’ath party slammed the Sudanese government over making normalization with Israel a condition for solving Sudan’s economic problems. Spokesman for the Sudanese Baath Party, Muhammad Wadaa, said, “The government must resign and cede power to the people if it is unable to overcome difficulties by itself.”

Pars Todays reports that United States President Donald Trump had on Friday sealed the normalization agreement in a phone call with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sudanese prime minister Abdalla Hamdok and General al Burhan. Sudan’s acting foreign minister Omar Gamareldin, however, said the accord would depend on approval from it’s legislative council, which is yet to be formed.
