The South African Hajj and Umrah Council says hujjaj who missed their flight from South Africa to Saudi Arabia were accommodated by the airline at various hotels.
A Saudi Airlines flight SB446 failed to depart to Saudi Arabia yesterday following a navigational technical issue with the plane.
Concerns were raised by the pilot who refused to take off until the technical fault was repaired.
President of SAHUC Shaheen Essop says Saudi Airlines have informed the Hajj body that stranded passengers will probably depart for the holy lands today.
“Towards midnight last night, we received a message from Saudi Airlines that the passengers should ready themselves by about 11am. We make dua that this is so, I haven’t had any official notification from the airline as yet.”
He says that the one night missed by Hujjaj in Medina due to the delayed flight is unfortunate.
“We can only make dua Allah makes it easy to soften the hearts of people on that side to try and give them an extra night failing which unfortunately it would be a night wasted or a night missed in the holy city of Medina Munawarah.”
About 2,500 South Africans will depart for hajj this year.
