In Johannesburg north, there seems to be a new scam that targets restaurants and food industries. Many businesses in the area have come forward and reported that over the past few months, they had been targeted by individuals needing large amounts of food items.
Speaking to the restaurant owners, all have the same story; a lady calls in requesting Halaal food items for a function she is hosting, and her caterer has let them down. After placing a large order, she proceeds to send proof of payment, and as soon as the food order is ready for collection, an Uber is sent to collect.
Now the claims have surfaced that the lady has used multiple cellphone numbers and names, costing small business owners a small fortune in lost revenue. The latest target this week lost close to R5000.
This scam targets individual-owned businesses and home industries.
A case of theft will be opened at the Norwood Police station as more and more business owners have been urged to come forward.
