Steenhuizen to Focus on Getting DA Back on Track & Not be Distracted by Personality Clashes with Maimane

February 14, 2020

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen says he’s sole focus is to get the party back on track and not be distracted by internal issues and personality clashes with former leader Mmusi Maimane.

Steenhuisen was responding to a question by Radio Islam ahead of the state of the nation address by President Cyril Ramaphosa about a comment on Twitter in which Maimane called him Judas after he said that the party under Maimane’s leadership focused too much on bashing the African National Congress (ANC).

Maimane also said, “someone should tell Judas Steenhuizen to keep his name out of his mouth.”

“It won’t end well for him. Just focus on your work and I will focus on my work. He must ask Cachalia.”

Speaking to Radio Islam, Steenhuisen says he doesn’t want to resort to name calling.

“I wish Mr Maimane well in all his endevours. I bare no animus towards him. His job is his job and my job is my job and that’s to take this party and lead it properly.”

Steenhuisen has denied he wanted to see the back of Maimane.

“I don’t think that’s borne in any evidence whatsoever. In fact, I was the one who rolled out continuously to defend him over the issue around the house and other things.”

Steenhuisen says he has not spoken to Maimane since their Twitter clash
