Loadshedding Ending Soon in South Africa

March 18, 2021

By Ejaz Khan

South Africans have experienced increased loadshedding in the last few weeks.

But not to worry, it will soon be a thing of the past. Well…Electricity, that is.

“We are not good at this whole ‘keep the lights on thing’…so we are closing up shop” – Eskom Insider

This shutdown of the electricity will be done in two phases:

  1. 12 hours on, 12 hours off.
  2. Nothing

Coming up with such a complex exit strategy must’ve taken hours of brainstorming and strategic planning. We managed to find someone who was part of the planning committee, Eskom Engineer Ugesi Cishiwe to shine some light on the brilliant analytical thinking that went into the decision:

“The Sun is out in the day, so you don’t need lights because the Sun provides the natural light…so yaah…that’s about it” – Ugesi Cishiwe

We hit the streets to find out how people felt about the change that was coming:

“Oooh will be so nice, like when we were young, coal stoves, candles…the only thing missing is apartheid oppression” – Rookaya ( 80)

“It’s fine, we’ve been off the grid for a while now, we are used to it” – Yasin (39)

“I have just bought a Tesla, why was this not told to us earlier???” – Brian (45)

This devastating development will affect the lives of generators to come.
