Shop Owner Robbed Outside Absa Bank in Lenasia

A shop owner was robbed outside the Absa Bank in Gemsbok Street in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg on Monday morning police have confirmed.  

According to a source, the shop owner arrived at the bank to deposit money when he was accosted by four armed men, one of whom held a gun to his head and demanded the bags of money he was carrying.

“He threw the money into the branch and then they came into the bank and took the bags money (sic),” said the source.

The suspects fled the scene in a getaway car with an undisclosed amount of money.  

A security guard of the bank was injured during the robbery.

“A case of armed robbery has been opened and so far no suspects have been arrested,” said the police’s Warrant Office Kay Makhubela.
