Severe Thunderstorms Expected to Hit Gauteng, Limpopo & Mpumalanga

Following the heatwave that gripped parts of the country, the South African Weather Service has warned of possible severe thunderstorms in Gauteng accompanied by hail strong winds and heavy rain.

In Gauteng, temperatures soared to 35 degrees Celsius and above as heatwave conditions persisted for nearly a week.

The Weather Service says Limpopo and Mpumalanga can also expect thunderstorms from Tuesday night.

“We are seeing thunderstorms that are developing which we think will become severe later on as the day goes by. Severe thunderstorms are storms that has got strong winds, hail, large hail and sometimes heavy rain.”

Forecaster Bransby Bulo says the mercury will start rising again from Thursday into the weekend.
