Serial arsonist eludes police

With the help of drones, helicopters, increased night patrols and a lucrative reward, a request has been made for any information that may lead to the arrest of the serial arsonist in Johannesburg.

The arsonist now also faces charges of murder, as a homeowner in Houghton passed away earlier this year.

He is believed to have started sixteen separate fires in suburbs that include Hyde Park, Rosebank, Benmore and Craighall Park, all in multimillion-rand houses, and now Houghton seems to be his new target.

Attacks are sometimes made in the dead of night, while some CCTV footage has captured the suspect casually walking around homes, eating food and just taking a stroll before setting the houses on fire.

Police are still investigating, and information leading to the suspect’s apprehension is welcomed.
