Senior Saudi Cleric Prays for World Peace & Unity During Arafah Sermon

August 31, 2017

A Saudi member of the Council of Senior Scholars and advisor at the Royal Court has urged hujjaj to set aside politics during the hajj and come together with fellow Muslims.

Sheikh Saad al-Shathri was addressing at least two million Muslims during the midday sermon at Masjid-un-Namirah on the plains of Arafah in Saudi Arabia on the second day of Hajj.

Referring to the Islamic legal and moral code derived from the holy Qur’an and hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Sheikh al-Shathri denounced terrorism and violence against each other and against non-Muslims.

“Islam prohibits terrorism, violence and bloodshed. Sharia came to preserve the security of nations and cultivate benevolence in (people’s) hearts.”

Sheikh al-Shathri urged hujjaj to set aside their differences and stand united.

He called on Muslims to act upon Shariah and follow the teachings of Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) for their salvation saying a Muslims word is his honour.

“Hold fast to the rope of Allah and stay away from what He has forbidden, and this is essential for winning the pleasure and love of Allah and thus achieving success in the life of this world and the Hereafter.”

Sheikh al-Shathri also prayed for the freedom of the Palestinian people and the return of Masjid-e-Aqsa.

Other attendees at Namirah Masjid included Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah, advisor to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and chairman of the Central Hajj Committee, and Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh.

Standing on Arafat is the climax of Hajj rituals with the pinnacle of the day being the Wuqoof period which begins just after noon.

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Hell than the Day of Arafah.”

At sunset millions of hujjaj will move from Arafah to the rocky plain of Muzdalifa to gather pebbles to pelt the Jamarat on the blessed day of Jumu’ah which also marks the first day of Eid al-Adha.
