A Grade R teacher who took a photo showing black and white pupils seated at separate tables at Laerskool Schweizer Reneke has vowed to clear her name after being labelled a racist.
Elana Barkhuizen was suspended last week after the photo went viral.
Trade union Solidarity together with Barkhuizen, held a briefing in Centurion on Tuesday it where was announced they will be challenging her suspension in court.
Speaking in Afrikaans, an emotional Barkhuizen says she is a mother, woman and a teacher.
Barkhuizen says she is going to fight to clear her name.
“I won’t let anyone tell me what my values are. I am going to walk this road. I will clear my name. I am going to take this powerful people and win. I am a good teacher.”
Barkhuizen says she is going to make very sure that what happened to her never happens to any other teacher.
